Dresden Hotels and Accommodation

(Dresden, Saxony, Germany)

Picture of the Alstadt districtIf you choose to arrive in the city of Dresden without booking accommodation in advance, a good place to start your search is at the many tourist offices. Dresden's many tourist centres are to be found around the main train station (Hauptbahnhof), the Theaterplatz, and along both the Bautzner Strasse and Prager Strasse, with staff happy to search through their list of available hotels to find you the most suitable accommodation.

The cost of hotels in Dresden depends when you visit. Quiet times during the winter months see many hotels reduce their rates to maintain occupancy levels, while the increased summer demand can cause a hike in hotel rates. Also worth bearing in mind, Dresden's accommodation can become particularly sought after during its biggest events, which include the 200+ concerts at the International Dixieland Festival each May, and the popular Dresden City Festival at the end of August.

Where to Stay

Those searching for cheap, budget hotels in Dresden will be surprised to find that accommodation here is usually on the pricey side. However, a number of good-value options have appeared around the city centre in recent years, being particularly clustered in the vibrant Neustadt district and includes a number of hostels.

On the very outskirts of Dresden, the Camping Mockritz campsite is also worth considering and a popular alternative to the city's more mainstream accommodation.

Close to the train station, plenty of accommodation options line the Prager Strasse, a pedestrianised shopping area where you will find no less than three Ibis Hotels, amongst many others.

Further hotels in Dresden can be found scattered around the charming historic Old Town district, which is known locally as the 'Altstadt', and on the outskirts of the city, around both the neighbourhoods of Loschwitz and White Stark, where accommodation lining the winding River Elbe is particularly popular. A number of hotels are also close to the airport in the Klotzsche area.
