With literally hundreds of stores scattered around the streets of central Bonn, there is plenty here to blow your holiday budget on, particularly around the market square (Marktplatz).

The best shopping precincts in Bonn are located close together and the shops often stand side by side, along with bars, cafes with pavement tables, and restaurants. In general, many of the shops in Bonn tend to be a little cheaper than those in nearby Cologne, so shopaholics, come prepared with money to spend.

Where to Shop

Amongst the best shopping offerings in Bonn, be sure to head to the historic market square, where a huge selection of shops are based, surrounding the plaza and its striking Old Town Hall (Alte Rathaus). Bonn's market square has been used for trading since the Middle Ages and often features outdoor stalls and open-air events. When shopping in this part of the city, consider exploring the neighbouring lanes and back streets, many of which are lined with shops and local stores.

Nearby, the Kaiserpassage shopping mall is worth searching out and contains a selection of gift shops, fashion boutiques and more. Located in the heart of the old town Bad Godesberg area, the Kaiserpassage Mall is a relatively new addition to the city's shopping scene and stands off the Kaiserplatz. This prominent public square with a central fountain and many shady trees, is sandwiched between both the university and the main Bonn train station, and opposite a charming church. From the Kaiserplatz, you can enjoy views of the Poppelsdorf Castle, whilst soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the scenery in this particularly vibrant and youthful part of Bonn.

Within the Bad Godesberg area of Bonn, there are innumerable shops located around the Altstadtcenter district, the city's acclaimed old town centre. Bakeries and coffee shops are never far away should you need a break and a little sustenance. Also look out for the shopping on offer around Bonn's Siegburg district, which is fairly compact and well pedestrianised.

For seasonal market shopping in Bonn, the city's Cathedral Square (Münsterplatz) hosts a number of annual markets, including a particularly popular Christmas market, when a large number of local traders ply their wares.
