St. Tropez Landmarks and Monuments

(St. Tropez, Provence-Alpes Cote d'Azur, France)

Photo of the historical St. Tropez Vieux Port (Old Port)Although the sandy beaches and gorgeous coastline of Saint Tropez may be the resort's main draw card and top attraction, there is actually a fair amount of history within the town. A number of historic landmarks are littered around the Vieux Port (Old Port), the Quai Jean Jaurès, and the squares in central Saint Tropez, such as the Place aux Herbes and the Place des Lices.

There is no mistaking the evident Parisian feel that the Place des Lices and its various landmarks exude, with its numerous cafe-style brasseries, which look as though they really do belong on the Champs-Elysées. The regular boules games at the Place des Lices are particularly famous in Saint Tropez, while the markets on the Place aux Herbes provide the opportunity to interact with the locals and pick up something cheap.

Vieux Port (Old Port)

One of the most charming parts of Saint Tropez and overflowing with character, the Vieux Port stands above the town's eastern quay and offers superb vistas of the coastline. Tourists tend to come to the Vieux Port to enjoy a flavour of the past, as well as a bite to eat at one of the quayside eateries, where they can watch the yachts sailing in the distance. The Old Port is a very relaxed part of the town.

Place des Lices

The Place des Lices offers something quite different to the beaches of Saint Tropez and lies on the southern side of the Vieux Port. The main reason that tourists visit the Place des Lices tends to be both celebrity spotting and watching the locals playing a game of boules, whilst enjoying a glass or two of wine beneath the ancient plane trees.
