Housed within the Centre de Vieille Charité, this venue boasts a number of outstanding artefacts, including some beautiful pottery and glass. The museum's Egyptian collection is particularly notable.

This museum dedicated to the city's seafaring commercial past is fittingly housed within its impressive neoclassical Stock Exchange building. Paintings, engravings and models of ships depict Marseille's strong ties with the sea, including trade, life in port and its maritime history.

The Musée du Vieux Marseille is a museum of local history and located within the Maison Diamantée, a rather fine 17th-century building in the old district. Exhibits within the museum help visitors to envisage for themselves daily life and traditions in the area from the 17th century onwards.

Musée des Docks Romains

The remains of the city's ancient Roman port only came to light thanks to a chance discovery when the area was being redeveloped. On display today is a vast collection of evidence that Marseille was at the heart of ancient commercial activity, including examples of objects that were once traded. On display too is wreckage that has been raised from the harbour.
