This historic art museum is the oldest in the whole city and is housed in one wing of the impressive Palais Longchamps. The museum's collection is dedicated to the French, Italian and Flemish schools of painting between the 15th and 19th centuries. There are also sculptures by the Marseille-born sculptor, Puget.

Musée Cantini

Housed in a fine 17th-century mansion, this gallery is dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Exhibits include the works of Bacon, Matisse, Le Corbusier, and Giacometti.

Located on the Corniche, Marseille's contemporary art gallery exhibits work dating from the 1960s to the present day, with a focus on the New Realists. César, Tinguely, Viallat, Buren and Boltanski are also represented in the permanent collections.
