Bars, restaurants and similar eateries are now concentrated in various vibrant areas of Sunderland, such as the marina and also the Sunniside neighbourhood, which was previously named the 'River Quarter' and now incorporates a popular multiplex cinema attraction.

The cuisine available at Sunderland is quite diverse and ranges from gourmet dining at gastro establishments, to pizza chains, Indian curry houses, Mexican eateries, Chinese takeaways, North-East pubs and of course, traditional fish and chip shops. Several very good restaurants reside along the Roker Terrace, overlooking the seafront, which is where you will find both the Tavistock Italia and the Thai China.

Many people head to the northerly suburb of Seaburn, where the selection of restaurants are known for their sea views and tasty dishes. Enjoying an enviable setting on the Seaburn seafront promenade itself, Little Italy is certainly one dining establishment worth searching out and features everything from spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne and pizzas, to seafood dishes such as Lobster Thermidor.

Another popular Italian restaurant in the Seaburn suburb of Sunderland is Martinos, which has the atmosphere of a sports bar and is close to the seaside attractions and amusements.
