The city's Maritime Museum is especially popular and lies along the Town Quay Road, while the Tudor House Museum is more centrally located and has much to look at.

Those more interested in England's rich aviation past should not miss the Solent Sky museum, which is just a short distance from central Southampton. The Solent Sky contains many important and old aircraft, including a Grasshopper, Tiger Moth, Sea Vixen, Vampire and its prize exhibit, a Spitfire. SeaCity Museum is full of nautical exhibits and memorabilia, including a particularly popular exhibition about the ill-fated Titanic, which features videos, artefacts and many interesting displays. Other attractions at the Maritime Museum include models of ships, a gift shop and information about the city's important docklands, past and present. SeaCity Museum also houses much of the collection that was previously displayed in the Museum of Archaeology at God's House Tower, until the museum's closure in September 2011.

The Tudor House Museum, in the heart of the city centre, is famous for its ghostly hauntings and many people believe that Anne Boleyn's ghost haunts the building, as she once stayed here many years ago. A grand mansion with equally impressive landscaped 'knot' gardens, the museum contains many impressive pieces. The building alone is worth a look and dates back to the very end of the 15th century, having recently undergone substantial renovations, following a large lottery grant. Of note the entry fee includes a free audio tour.

Solent Sky Museum (Hall of Aviation)

Standing close to the Ocean Village area of Southampton, the Solent Sky museum, formerly known as the Southampton Hall of Aviation, celebrates the history of flight around the Solent region. Of particular interest to aviation enthusiasts will be an old seaplane built in the 1920s, a De Havilland Tiger Moth biplane and a lovingly restored Spitfire plane.
