Portsmouth Shopping and Districts

(Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, UK)

Mall photoPeople come to Portsmouth from literally miles away, since the shopping here is just so good. Over the past decade or so, big-name High Street retailers have flocked to Portsmouth to take advantage of the shopping crowds and ever-expanding opportunities.

Since Portsmouth is a city of some size, there are several quite separate shopping districts here, such as the city centre itself, as well as Southsea and the Gunwharf Quays. Each of these areas is a little different from the others and perfect for an afternoon's retail therapy.

Where to Shop

Portsmouth city centre is where you will find many of the big names in the UK shopping world, and they are evenly distributed along Commercial Road and the adjacent Cascades centre, which features Kingswell Path, Meadow Walk and Spring Walk.

Popular shops and department stores in this part of Portsmouth include BHS, Debenhams, H&M, Marks and Spencers, Next, Primark, TK Maxx and WH Smith, amongst countless others.

Close to the Portsmouth beachfront, shops in Southsea are based along Albert Road, Marmion Road and Palmerston Road - which is where you will find the popular Farmer's Markets.

At the Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth's acclaimed designer outlet shopping offers an appealing waterfront setting and massively discounted prices. The contemporary Spinnaker Tower rather dominates the Gunwharf Quays area and provides a very stylish backdrop.
