Portsmouth Hotels and Accommodation

(Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, UK)

Skyline photographThe Hampshire city of Portsmouth contains a comprehensive selection of accommodation, with lodging ranging from family run bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) to sizeable three- and four-star hotels. Guest rooms at most Portsmouth hotels quickly fill up during peak times, so it is always safest to book your accommodation in advance.

Although the majority of the cheapest B&Bs and guesthouses reside within the Southsea area of the city, it is generally considered that the better accommodation is to be found at the Point, within the Old Portsmouth district. There are a number of good hotels in Southsea, offering pleasant views across the Solent. If possible, try to choose hotels or guesthouses that are members of the Portsmouth and Southsea Hoteliers Association (PASHA).

Where to Stay

For budget accommodation in the city, the Ibis Portsmouth Centre of Winston Churchill Avenue enjoys a convenient central location, being just a three-minute walk from the railway station and the High Street.

In the Southsea neighbourhood, the Ashby's Boutique Hotel on Auckland Road West is small and considerably more intimate.

Popular reasonably priced Portsmouth hotels include the Hilton on the Eastern Road (Farlington area), the Marriott at the North Harbour, and the Holiday Inn on Pembroke Road.

With good views of the Southsea seafront and even the Isle of Wight, consider staying at the Sandringham Hotel on Osborne Road, where a choice of restaurants and nightspots are just a short stroll away. Malvern Road in Southsea is another good place to look for accommodation in Portsmouth, as is the Bellevue Terrace, Clarence Road, Festing Road, Florence Road and Victoria Road.
