Torbay Museums

(Brixham / Paignton / Torquay - Torbay, Devon, England, UK)

Photograph showing the Golden Hind Museum Ship at Brixham HarbourAlthough most tourists come to Torbay for its beaches and sunshine, there are a small number of museums that are perfect for rainy days. The Torquay Museum on Babbacombe Road is especially notable and is dedicated to all aspects of local Torbay history.

In Brixham, there are two main museums to choose between. The first is the Brixham Heritage Museum, which is located close to the centre of Brixham and occupies the town's former Police Station and Sergeant's House, standing next to the library and Fore Street. Second is the wonderful full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake's famous ship, the Golden Hind, which has been permanently moored in the port of Brixham since 1963 and provides a genuine insight into the lives of 16th-century sailors.
