Photo of beautiful Portelet BayApart from the enormous selection of beaches around Jersey, the islands is home to a wealth of popular tourist attractions, many of which remain open all through the year, such as the Cineworld cinema multiplex, AquaSplash, Jersey Bowl and Reg's Garden, an interesting back garden open to the public in aid of charity. However, one tourist attraction stands high above the others, the Durrell Wildlife Park.

Also known as Jersey Zoo or simply Durrell, the wildlife park is brimming with interest and plays an important part of world conservation, being responsible from saving a number of species from the very brink of extinction and filled with animal attractions. During the summer season, tourists will also enjoy a sightseeing trip on the Road Train (Le Petit Train, which departs from Liberation Square at St. Helier). Also consider a visit to the scenic Lavender Farm, wine tasting at the La Mare Wine Estate, or a round of miniature golf at Jersey's ever-popular Living Legend.

Covering almost 10 acres / 4 hectares and found in St. Peter, Jersey's Living Legend is a leading island attraction and features two superb miniature golf courses, a craft village with tax-free shopping, cream teas at the Courtyard Marquee, and a selection of home-made meals at the Kitchen Restaurant. Also popular are the crepes, croissants and coffees at the Terrace Creperie, the sweets in the Jersey Fudge Kitchen, the outdoor play area and the many seasonal events.

A truly superb attraction, tourists flock to the Durrell Wildlife Park, whatever the time of the year. Famous the world over and founded by leading animal lover Gerald Durrell around 50 years ago, the Durrell Wildlife Park attracts well over 150,000 visitors annually. Housed in extremely spacious and beautifully landscaped enclosures, often complete with trees, waterfalls and streams, Jersey Zoo is home to almost 200 different species, with animal attractions such as Andean bears, coatis, flamingos, fruit bats, gibbons, gorillas, lemurs, macaques, marmosets, orangutans, otters, wallabies and tamarins, many of which are allowed to roam around the park freely. A great restaurant and large play area are also on hand.

La Mare Wine Estate

Definitely something for the grown-ups and anyone with the slightest interest in wines, La Mare Wine Estate is located in the parish of St. Mary, within the glorious grounds of an 18th-century farmhouse. La Mare Wine Estate produces a number of tasty, award-winning wines, although perhaps most famous is the estate's Jersey Apple Brandy, which is amongst the main attractions and the perfect souvenir or gift. Tours of the winery and vineyard are available, as are the ever-popular wine tasting sessions. Those in need of refreshments will enjoy the views across the estate from the aptly named Vineyard Restaurant.

Located in the Waterfront Centre and adjacent to the Cineworld cinema complex, along with outlets of both Pizza Hut and KFC, the AquaSplash comprises a six-lane swimming pool, measuring 25 metres / 82 feet. Jersey's AquaSplash is open all year round and features many water-based attractions for all ages, including a lazy river, two fast water slides, a tyre ride and also an outdoor pool for the sunny days. A crèche is on hand if required, along with a sauna and steam room.

aMaizin Maze and Adventure Park

One of the most popular tourist attractions on Jersey for families, the aMaizin Maze and Adventure Park boasts an array of fun-filled activities, including no less than go-kart tracks, a gold mine, a fast toboggan run (with height restrictions), and panning for gold at the Dusty Mountain Gold Mine. Always popular is the Barnyard, where you can even milk a cow, and the new Dino Dig, where children always enjoy trying their hand at being an archaeologist and excavating their very own dinosaur bones. For July onwards, the giant labyrinth of growing corn opens.
