Wanaka Hotels and Accommodation

(Wanaka, Otago, South Island, New Zealand)

Photo of cruise boatThe proximity to the Mount Aspiring Park ensures that the Alpine resort of Wanaka remains popular throughout the year, and whilst fairly small in size, is something of a tourist hotspot. Therefore, Wanaka is home to a very reasonable selection of hotels and lodges, with accommodation being located in the town itself, around the surrounding Central Otago area and within the nearby town of Queenstown.

Just a matter of minutes away and on the western side of the resort, lying along the southerly shoreline of Lake Wanaka, the Mount Aspiring Road is lined with a choice of lodging, such as the aptly named Mount Aspiring Hotel. This particular hotel offers boutique-style accommodation, balconies, mountain views and is especially close to the popular lakeside Millennium Walkway.

Where to Stay

Close by and also on the Mount Aspiring Road is the Whare Kea Lodge, which enjoys a particularly beautiful setting next to Lake Wanaka and features a very sophisticated take on lodging, with luxury accommodation being available in its swanky Alpine chalet, within the Buchanan mountains.

On the southerly outskirts of Wanaka, the Cardona Valley Road contains a further array of hotels and lodges, with the Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort being amongst the biggest and featuring more than 170 hotel rooms and apartments, along with a series of heated rock pools and spa complexes.

Further central accommodation is located on the Halliday Road, the Plantation Road and the Eely Point Road, the latter of which stands alongside the Eely Point Recreation Reserve. For budget accommodation, consider staying at the Wanaka YHA hostel on Upton Road, or the Bakpaka Hostel on the Lakeside Road.
