(Queenstown, Otago, South Island, New Zealand)

Picture of waterfront lodging fronting the bayThe accommodation scene is Queenstown is especially seasonal and hotels are at their most expensive in the busy summer peak period. Lodging in Queenstown is also at a premium in the busy ski season, when the town becomes something of a leading New Zealand winter resort.

Hotels overlooking the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu are amongst the most desirable, although you will certainly have to pay extra for hotel rooms with a view. Groups or families searching for holiday homes or apartments will find that the Queenstown Accommodation Centre on Shotover Street should always be the first port of call. However, during the busiest times, a minimum stay of one week is usually required.

The Queenstown YHA on the Lake Esplanade also offers a good standard of lodging, with further cheap accommodation available along Anderson Heights, Frankton Road, Hamilton Road, Spence Road and Thompson Street. Slightly more upmarket and located along Sainsbury Road is the Queenstown Lodge.
