Getting Around, Noosa Travel, Transport and Car Rental

Renting a car is the ideal way to properly travel around Queensland and vehicles are available for hire at Noosa Junction, allowing you to explore the area with ease. Rental transport is also on hand for those flying into nearby Brisbane Airport, with a good selection of car hire companies to choose between.
Bus transport in Noosa provides a cheap way to travel around the Noosa region and coastal attractions, although the choice of routes is fairly limited. For longer journeys, coaches and trains are the best option, with a choice of railway stations being located close by. Ferry transport is worth consider too, particularly if you are planning to travel to Tewantin or the Noosa North Shore.
Airports / Arriving by Air
The closest airport of significance is the Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY), which also goes by the name of Maroochydore Airport and is located approximately 30 km / 19 miles to the south of Noosa. Each year, the Sunshine Coast Airport handles just under one million passengers, with airlines flying directly to top Australian destinations such as both
Melbourne and
Sydney. Alternatively,
Brisbane Airport (BNE) is to be found just over 130 km / 81 miles to the south and can be reached in under two hours by road, where it serves almost 20 million passengers annually. Airport buses and transfer services are readily available, together with car rental companies.
Car Rental
Those wishing to drive to
Brisbane will find that the city is just over two hours away by car and lies to the south, being reached by using the Sunshine Motorway and the Bruce Highway. Nearer to home, car transport provides the easiest way to reach the coastal attractions between Mount Coolum to the south and Lake Cootharaba to the north, such as Point Arkwright, Coolum Beach, Peregian Beach and Sunshine Beach.
Buses and Coaches
Although there is no bus terminal as such, bus stops are available along Noosa Drive and Noosa Parade, close to Hastings Street. Sunbus transport regularly travels alongside the coastline, connecting Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Eumundi and Maroochydore.
Trains
The closest railway stations are to be found at Cooroy, Eumundi, Maryborough, Nambour and Pomona. A connecting bus will be required to reach the station, or alternatively taxis are usually quite inexpensive for short journeys.
Boats and Ferries
Regular ferries run every day and transport passengers between Noosa Heads and Tewantin, with a number travelling as far as the Noosa North Shore. All-day passes are available if required, along with river ferries with onboard commentary.
