Banten Events, Things to Do and Festivals 2014 / 2015

West Java is steeped in tradition and many festivals are celebrated here every year. Especially notable are the events related to the Indonesian Independence Day (Hari Proklamasi Kemerdekaan) on August 17th, where locals throughout the Banten province party and remember the events of some 350 years ago, when the Dutch colonial rule was no longer.

Other prominent things to do, see and enjoy each year in Banten include the Islamic New Year (Muharram) parties in late January, and the Chinese New Year (Imlek) festivities in early February. The Easter festivals in late March / early April are also of note and include both Good Friday and Easter (Paskah) itself.


Banten Calendar of Festivals and Events 2014 / 2015

In April / May, the birth of the Prophet Muhammad is another cause for celebration within Banten and is known locally as the Maulud Nabi Muhammad. Soon after, Muhammad's birthday is followed by Waisak Day, which marks Buddha's birth.

At some stage between the end of August and the middle of September, Banten remembers the ascension of the Prophet Muhammad (Isra Miraj Nabi Muhammad), with much rejoicing. In October / November, the whole of Indonesia parties, with Lebaran (Idul Fitri) marking the end of the Ramadan fasting.
