Maluku Museums and Art Galleries

(Maluku / Moluccan Islands, Indonesia)

There are numerous historically significant buildings on the Maluku Islands and on Pulau Neira in particular, some of which now play host to small and interesting museums. However, the opening hours of museums on Maluku can be quite variable, and so it may well be necessary to simply knock on the door and hope for a reply.

Located on the island of Pulau Ternate and completed at the very end of the 18th century, the Istana Kesultan is still used by the sultan and functions as a home for his family, as well as being home to a popular Maluku museum. Also notable is the town of Soasia, which lies on the south-easterly coast of Pulau Tidore and is home to a number of attractions, such as the Sonyine Malige Sultan's Memorial Museum and its regal artefacts.
