Maluku Events, Things to Do and Maluku Festivals 2014 / 2015

(Maluku / Moluccan Islands, Indonesia)

With the ever-increasing popularity of the Maluku Islands, the tourism industry really makes an effort to promote local festivals and things to do. Maluku locals enjoy public displays and performances, with the events at the annual Ambon Bay Festival being especially noteworthy.

The Ambon Bay Festival takes place each year at the end of September and is based not only in the resort of Ambon, but also throughout the West Ceram Regency. Maluku tourists visiting this area at this time can expect to enjoy everything from traditional boat racing (Arumbai Manggurebe), to feasting, cultural performances and even a swimming race across the Ambon Bay.

Another highlight on Ambon's calendar of events is the acclaimed Ambon Jazz Plus Festival, which is staged each year at the beginning of September and attracts jazz musicians from throughout Indonesia and beyond.

Being surrounded by the Ceram Sea (Seram Sea) and next to both the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean, sailing is understandably a popular pastime, with Maluku often being directly involved with the Sail Indonesia Rally, between Darwin (Northern Territory, Australia) and Ternate.

Held in either August / September, the Maluku Spice Festival helps to showcase this province as an important part of Indonesia, promoting tourism and cultural diversity.
