Hong Kong Hotels and Accommodation

(Hong Kong, China)

Picture of the high-rise Eaton HotelIt is fair to say that much of the accommodation and lodging found within Hong Kong is noticeably more pricey than that within other parts of China, and the guest rooms are often a little on the small side. Hotels in Hong Kong tend to be at their most expensive during periods of peak occupancy, with the high season falling between April and May, and again in October and November, outside of which discounts are more likely.

Budget travellers looking for the very cheapest of accommodation within Hong Kong generally favour guesthouses to hotels, where dormitory-style lodging is available. Official youth hostels for backpackers are also on hand, although tend to be located away from the action and around the New Territories. However, the Hong Kong Hostel on Paterson Street, within Causeway Bay, is always a safe bet and enjoys a fairly desirable setting.

Where to Stay

The tourist area of Tsim Sha Tsui is a good place to begin your search for available hotels in Hong Kong and lies on the northern side of Kowloon.

Luxury accommodation is especially plentiful within Tsim Sha Tsui and around its waterfront, with the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel on Nathan Road, and both nearby Peninsula and InterContinental Hong Kong on Salisbury Road being three of the best. For something a little cheaper in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Holiday Inn Golden Mile comes highly recommended.

An impressive collection of top-end hotels reside within the Admiralty and Central districts of Hong Kong Island. For accommodation within the mid-range price bracket, look to the hotels around Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. Central really forms the very heart of Hong Kong and accommodation here is close to the Star Ferry pier and many soaring skyscrapers, such as the famed Bank of China Tower. Lodging in commercial district of Admiralty is never far from the lush Hong Kong Park, with favourites include the Conrad on the Pacific Place, and the JW Marriott on the Queensway.
