Particularly prominent within the local art world in the Hong Kong Museum of Art, which clearly demonstrates how the Eastern art has evolved over the years, housing the city's biggest collection of Chinese art.

The universities of the territory also contain more than their fair share of art galleries. One such gallery is the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which boasts a wealth of valuable decorative arts, including Cantonese paintings, bronze sculptures and some exquisite jade flowers.

Hong Kong's premier art facility features a variety of diverse collections, among which are classical Chinese works by distinguished artists as well as some excellent lithographs that hail from the early days of the territory. The paintings and calligraphic works in the Xubaizhi collection are notable, as are the works on display in the contemporary art and international exhibition galleries.

Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong

Located within the Chinese University, the acclaimed Art Museum lies within the Shatin area, where it contains an extensive permanent collection, spread across two adjoining 'wings'. Visitors will find everything from Chinese paintings to pottery, calligraphy and local handicrafts.

University Museum and Art Gallery

Part of the University of Hong Kong complex, the University Museum and Art Gallery is home to a wealth of fine art, along with beautiful porcelain pieces, historical sculptures and various other art works. This large and interesting collection has been amassed over the years thanks to generous donations and is displayed within a number of individual rooms. Further exhibits are rotated on a regular basis, for added interest.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum

One of the biggest of all the museums within the territory, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum is home to no less than 12 separate exhibition spaces, which are central around spacious courtyards and therefore flooded with natural light. Each of these gallery spaces is themed, showcasing traditional and contemporary pieces from the New Territories and throughout China.

Museum Annex

The commercial Museum Annex enjoys a central located in Hong's Kong bustling Stock Market district, where it is actually part of a shopping complex. Various paintings and other similar art works can be found here, which tend to be rotated on a regular basis and all for sale.
