Frequently ranking among the world's most popular airports, the Hong Kong International Airport has plenty to crow about. Modern and scenic, loaded with enticing amenities and typically a pleasure to travel through, this air facility serves as one of Asia's main air hubs, with more than 50 million annual passengers passing through its terminals.
More than 90 airlines operate out of Hong Kong's airport, servicing regular flights to destinations all across the globe. This is the home base for Cathay Pacific and Dragonair, as well as a stopover for Western carriers, including both United and Virgin Atlantic. The world's largest planes, such as the Airbus 380, are regular visitors to this magnificent airport, which is surrounded by water.
The two terminals at Hong Kong are extremely impressive. Terminal 1 is the world's third-largest terminal, and both terminals combine striking modern architecture, bright spacious interiors and lots of useful amenities. A series of cultural exhibits celebrate Chinese heritage, while the adjacent SkyCity shopping and entertainment complex offers endless diversion during long stopovers.

The Hong Kong International Airport is located some 40 km / 25 miles south-west of downtown. It lies on its own island of reclaimed land, just offshore from Lantau Island. The districts of Ngau Kwu Long and Lau Fau Sha are nearby.

Cars and Taxis
Although few visitors opt to drive in Hong Kong, there are some car rental options at the Hong Kong International Airport. However, taxis tend to be the most flexible transport option. They are found outside the Arrivals hall at the Taxi Station and are colour coded, based on the area of the city that they service. Limousines are also available for private transport.
Buses
Several public bus routes, known as A Routes, run to the airport. They offer an affordable way to reach the terminals. Hotel coaches depart from the Coach Station at Terminal 2 and stop at most major hotels in Hong Kong.
Trains
The Airport Express train whisks travellers to the Central Station, Hong Kong Island's primary transport hub, in just 25 minutes. Trains depart every ten minutes throughout most of the day and night.
