Charleston Restaurants and Dining

(Charleston, West Virginia - WV, USA)

Although it is quite fair to say that you won't exactly be spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants in the West Virginia capital, Charleston does feature more than enough dining options for most visitors.

One advantage with dining out in this city is that Charleston isn't currently known for its tourism market and therefore, local restaurants cater mainly for locals, meaning that there aren't really any tourist traps as such. However, there are certainly more than a few familiar fast-food chains for families to take advantage of.

Some of Charleston's most popular fast-food restaurants include those of Chick-fil-A on Mountaineer Boulevard, KFC on MacCorkle Avenue Southwest, McDonald's on MacCorkle Avenue Southeast, Subway on Alex Lane, Taco Bell on 3rd Avenue and Wendy's on Virginia Street East. Also of note are Arby's, Burger King and TGI Friday's, all of which reside on the RHL Boulevard.

Where to Eat

If you are only in Charleston for a few days and are looking to eat out, then there are a few restaurants and eateries that really do stand out in particular. Located on MacCorkle Avenue, Laury's Restaurant was established in 1979 and boasts elegant dining, being known for its mixture of American and French cuisine.

Those dining at Laury's will find plenty of tempting dishes on the menu, such as succulent surf and turf, broiled lobster tail, sea bass and scallops, which are accompanied by a superb wine list. The sparkling chandeliers and fine views across both the Kanawha River and central Charleston all add to the overall appeal.

For perhaps the tastiest pizza that you are likely to find in Charleston, make a note to check out Pies and Pints on Capitol Street. Close to Taylor Books, the Adelphia Sports Bar and Grille, and the Capitol Conference Center, Pies and Pints is also known for its extensive array of beer and wine, although it is worth noting that you may well have to wait for a table. Pizza aficionados should also leave time for dining at Lola's Restaurant on Bridge Road.

Further restaurants in Charleston can be found around the Charleston Town Center Mall, such as the Tidewater Grill and its seafood specialties, and the Chop House, where prime beef steaks, veal chops and coriander-encrusted tuna are highlights on the dining menu. Also of note are Clendenin Street and Washington Street, home to the Fifth Quarter Restaurant and the Bluegrass Kitchen respectively.
