Charleston Hotels and Accommodation

(Charleston, West Virginia - WV, USA)

Charleston, capital of West Virginia, may not be the biggest of state capitals, but when it comes to accommodation, there are certainly more than enough hotels to please everyone. Whether you are looking for lodging in the city center, or would prefer to stay on the outskirts, close to Yeager Airport, there is plenty of choice. In fact, there are over 3,500 beds within the Greater Charleston Area and close to 1,500 rooms in the downtown district alone.

Most tourists planning a holiday in the capital prefer to stay in downtown Charleston, where hotels have the advantage of being within walking distance of attractions, restaurants and shops, as well as trails running alongside the Kanawha River.

Notable accommodation in Charleston city center includes familiar brands such as the rather pricey Embassy Suites on Court Street (next to the Town Center Mall), although do bear in mind that parking here is an additional charge. Close by is the Fairfield Inn and also the Best Western Charleston Plaza on Washington Street East, where modern renovations in recent years have certainly improved the standard of lodging.

Where to Stay

Located close to the Charleston Civic Center, on the western side of the city center, the Holiday Inn Express on Civic Center Drive comes with mixed reviews.

The neighboring Marriott Town Center on Lee Street East is slightly more upmarket and boasts in excess of 350 guest rooms. Nearby are no less than two Hampton Inn hotels, standing either side of the Pennsylvania Avenue / Interstate I-64.

Those planning a vacation in Charleston and looking for budget accommodation should consider staying along Interstate I-77, where travelodges, chain motels and cheap hotels provide excellent value for money, together with good connections to the city.
