Montpelier Hotels and Accommodation

(Montpelier, Vermont - VT, USA)

As the smallest state capital in the whole of North America, Montpelier doesn't have a great deal of choice when it comes to hotels. However, the accommodation available in the city generally meets most demands, with a number of familiar chains targeting businessmen and visiting politicians.

In the winter months, the seasonal ski resorts of neighboring Stowe and beyond do rather bump up the local lodging rates, so that is certainly worth making a note of if you are planning a winter vacation in Montpelier

For most visitors, lodging in downtown Montpelier is certainly the preferred choice and the most popular accommodation in this part of the city tends to come in the form of guest houses, B&Bs and inns, instead of large modern hotels.

Where to Stay

Located in Montpelier city center, the Doyles Guest House on School Street is a reliable bet, being conveniently based within the Historic District and just a stroll from the Lost Nation Theater on Main Street. Close by and on East State Street is Betsy's Bed and Breakfast, which regularly enjoys favorable reviews and a homely Victorian-style feel.

For more modern mid-range hotels, the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center on State Street comes recommended and is known for its colonial character and proximity to the Winooski River, the Vermont State House and several restaurants.

Located on the southern side of Montpelier and just off Interstate I-89 (exit 7) is the Comfort Inn and Suites at Maplewood, on the Paine Turnpike North. The accommodation here has the advantage of being close to the Montpelier City Forest, the Berlin Shopping Mall and the Edward F. Knapp State Airport.

On the southeastern side of the city, the Barre Montpelier Road (Route 302) leads to a choice of budget accommodation and cheap two-star hotels, namely the Twin City Motel and the Vermonter Motel, sited near the Central Plaza Shopping Center.
