Located deep in the south of Texas on the Gulf of Mexico, between Houston and the Mexican border, Corpus Christi offers a number of interesting and historic districts and neighborhoods, just waiting to be explored. Corpus Christi is a very popular Texan getaway, boasting fine ocean views and some quality urban districts and surrounding areas.

The city of Corpus Christi is buffeted from the Gulf by Mustang and Padre islands, which also happen to be part of the main attraction, while the business district of the city is cleverly bisected by a sea wall. Corpus Christi boasts an attractive waterfront area and the various districts, including downtown, have lots of charm and character. Here are Corpus Christi's main neighborhoods, locations and districts.


Del Mar District

The Del Mar area of Corpus Christi is one of the city's oldest and most prominent neighborhoods, with many rich homes dating from the 1920s, and a prestigious college. Del Mar lies between Louisiana Avenue and Palmero Street and is ideal for strolling any time of the day.

Downtown District

The downtown district of Corpus Christi contains many of the city's attractions, as well as the best shopping and dining options, with most of the main points of interest within reach of one another. Downtown Corpus Christi features an impressive waterfront and promenade, where ambling and rollerblading are pastimes, while Miradores del Mar and del Flor add some sophistication. Heading back towards the city, the focus of Corpus Christi's downtown district is the Water Street Market, where numerous shops and restaurants can be found.

Flour Bluff

The Flour Bluff community, to the southeast of downtown and on the way to Padre Island, is somewhat of a bohemian area and a wonderful place to spend some time, with its excellent watering holes.

North Downtown District

North of downtown Corpus Christi and just over the Harbor Bridge are the city's main attractions, The USS Lexington, a WWII aircraft carrier and floating naval museum, and the brilliant Texas State Museum. There is also beautiful parkland and many picnic areas here, as well Corpus Christi's waterfront and ferryboat rides, where visitors can see wild dolphins at play.

Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive runs from Corpus Christi's downtown waterfront, along the ocean front and all the way down to Flour Buff, to the southeast of downtown. The strip offers a wonderfully scenic drive, with a combination of spectacular ocean views and affluent neighborhoods, where the Corpus Christi jet-set reside.

Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island National Seashore runs offshore from southeast downtown Corpus Christi all the way to the Mexican border and is touted as the largest undeveloped barrier island in the continental United States. Facilities at the visitor center are good, with restrooms and showers, and the activities available to visitors in the park consist of bathing, swimming, surfing, fishing, hiking and much more.
