Chattanooga is home to a number of extremely notable museums and art galleries. These include the Hunter Museum of American Art, which stands on Bluff View and alongside the popular Chattanooga Riverwalk.

The Creative Discovery Museum is perhaps the perfect family attraction in the city and resides on Chestnut Street, just off West 3rd Street, where themed exhibits include the Excavation Street, the Inventors Clubhouse, the Lookout Tower, the Rooftop Fun Factory and the Visual Arts Gallery. One not to miss is the Chattanooga Choo Choo Museum, which is a much-visited complex and sited just a few blocks from the University of Tennessee, near to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium.

Located in the downtown district, the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo train station comprises a museum, hotel, restaurant and popular convention center. This much-visited attraction offers a range of memorabilia about the train, which inspired the well-known Glen Miller hit.

Hunter Museum of American Art

Overlooking the Tennessee River, the highly regarded Hunter Museum of American Art is home to a comprehensive collection of American works of art, ranging from paintings to sculptures. With many historical exhibits, temporary displays and breathtaking views, the museum appeals to all ages.

Creative Discovery Museum

The Creative Discovery Museum is a favorite with toddlers, with its brilliant interactive exhibits aimed at little ones, while adults will also enjoy the Inventor's Workshop and the Musician's Studios. Creative Discovery is located close to the Tennessee Aquarium, whilst being just a short distance from Boynton Park and the Walnut Street Bridge.

Houston Museum of Decorative Arts

Located along the High Street, the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts is housed in a historic, Victorian house, close to the city's downtown district. Known for its exceptional collections of ceramics, antique glassworks and furniture, items were donated by the late, local antiques dealer Anna Safley Houston, after whom the museum is named. Guided tours and a gift shop are also available at the museum.

Battles for Chattanooga Museum

The Battles for Chattanooga Museum lies on the site of the 1863 Battle above the Clouds and covers Civil War battles in Chattanooga's turbulent history, via a three-dimensional electronic battle map. Nearby attractions include both the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway and the Battle of Lookout Mountain site.
