A mesmerizing building packed full of surprises, the amazing Providence Museum of Art is a kaleidoscope of colors, styles and mediums. All of the exhibits are arranged in a way that creates a maximum impact, whether obvious or subtle, on the viewer. Experience the extensive collections of antiques, paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, prints and textiles from all over the world.

Highlights at the Museum of Art include the collections of Impressionists, with pieces by Monet, Manet, Degas, Gauguin, Pissarro, Cassatt, Cézanne and Renoir; Aldrich Japanese prints; Gorham silver and American furniture. Other attractions include examples of fine art from throughout various periods of history in Europe, Latin America, Egypt, Asia and the Middle East. When you've had your fill of magnificent artwork, you can tour the neighboring replica 19th-century Providence mansion, Pendleton House.

Governor Henry Lippit House Museum

A savvy businessman, Henry Lippit profited from both the Union and Confederates during the Civil War by supplying both sides with uniforms and materials. He served two terms as governor of Rhode Island and had this incredible Providence mansion built as his legacy. Erected in the Renaissance Revival style, the house has some of the most intricate woodwork to be found anywhere in Providence. Of interest to architectural history buffs is the early central heating system and electrical wiring, one of the earliest examples of such innovations in New England.

Museum of Rhode Island History at Aldrich House

Aldrich House was home to one of the most influential men in Rhode Island history, Winthrop West Aldrich. This early 19th-century mansion was converted into a museum in 1974, when it was donated to Providence by the Aldrich family. Apart from a permanent display of superb furnishing and interior décor, Aldrich House has an ever-changing range of temporary exhibits relating to Aldrich and the history of Rhode Island.
