Lancaster's metropolitan airport receives limited traffic, but provides convenient access if you are short on time, while Highway 30 offers fast travel direct from Philadelphia, as do Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains.


Lancaster Airport (LNS) / Arriving by Air

Lancaster Airport is well served by regional airports and is located just a few miles north of the city. However, most people fly into Philadelphia's international airport and then travel to Lancaster by car. Philadelphia receives flights the world over and numerous daily services from all over America. Trains and buses travel from Philadelphia throughout the day, a 90-minute journey by road. From Lancaster Airport, taxis provide transport to the city and its hotels.

Car Rental

Cars can be hired at Lancaster Airport and there is a Hertz transport office in the city at 625 East Orange Street. To travel to the city from the airport, take Highway 501 south for about 7 miles / 11 km, while those coming from farther afield can make use of a number of popular highways that converge at Lancaster city. Highway 30 provides access to Lancaster from Philadelphia in the east, while Highway 283 comes in from Harrisburg in the northwest.

Buses and Coaches

Capitol Trailways buses travel to Lancaster three times a day from the Greyhound Terminal in Philadelphia, taking about 2 hours and traveling to McGovern Avenue in Lancaster. The Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA) runs services around Lancaster and the surrounding regions.

Trains

Amtrak trains travel to Lancaster from Philadelphia's 30th Street Station daily, with trains arriving at Lancaster Station at 53 McGovern Avenue. There are 10 trains daily that take a little over an hour each way and fares are reasonable. Trains also arrive from Harrisburg.

There are a number of taxi firms in Lancaster that operate from the airport, including Friendly Taxi, Lancaster Yellow Cab and Airport Pickup and Delivery, three of the most popular firms.
