In common with the majority of the Willamette Valley region, Oregon's state capital of Salem loosely features an oceanic climate crossed with that of the Mediterranean. In short, the winter weather is relatively mild, while summers are pleasantly warm, being a little hot and humid at times.

Overnight frosts can occur in Salem anytime from December to March, although during most nights, the temperatures manage to stay above freezing, climbing anywhere between 8°C / 46°F and 10°C / 50°F by day.

The springtime climate of Salem is slow to appear and temperature rises from February to April are fairly gradual. July and August are always the hottest months, when temperatures peak at around 28°C / 82°F or even 30°C / 86°F on the very hottest of days, feeling humid at times.

The rainfall experienced by Salem is certainly seasonal, with the city being at its driest during June, July and August, and wettest from November through March. On average, the month of June sees precipitation levels just topping 0.5 inches / 1.3 cm, compared to a much wetter 6.5 inches / 16.5 cm in December.
