Salem Restaurants and Dining

(Salem, Oregon - OR, USA)

Downtown Salem is an especially historic part of Oregon's state capital and it is here where you will find some of the most popular restaurants and eateries. Close to the Oregon State Capitol and Wilson Park, these dining establishments are located along roads such as Court Street Northeast, Ferry Street Southeast, High Street, Liberty Street, State Street and Trade Street Southeast.

Those planning an evening out in Salem's characterful downtown district will find many attractions close by, such as the recently renovated Reed Opera House, which actually features its very own selection of restaurants and bakeries.

These include the Little Cannoli Bakery and BelgiQue Sugar Waffles (basement), Brown's Towne Lounge, the Macedonia Greek Restaurant and Napoleon's Creperie (ground floor), and La Perla Tapatia, which is located on the mezzanine level and offers tasty Mexican-style dining, with burritos, tacos and a salad bar.

Where to Eat

Just a short distance from the Willamette River and the Salem Riverfront City Park, Busick Court on Court Street is a reliable place to come for breakfast or Sunday brunch. Cajun-style pork loin and eggs is a particular specialty here, along with pancakes, chicken fried steaks, and buttermilk biscuits with gravy.

Close by and standing on Commercial Street is the Copperjohns Restaurant, which is another reliable dining choice for breakfast with an atmosphere. Just across the road and still in downtown Salem is the acclaimed Venti's Cafe and Basement Bar on Court Street, which frequently receives top reviews from its diners and serves up healthy food at a very reasonable price, as well as an extensive array of beers. Starbucks, the Thai Orchid Restaurant and Straight from New York Pizza are further eateries based within the same block.

Lying on the eastern side of Salem city center and also known for its tasty breakfasts is the Word of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro on 17th Street Northeast. Creme brulee French toast and cinnamon roll pancakes are accompanied by an appealing lunch menu at this award-winning eatery.

For a taste of Spain in Salem, the tapas at Andaluz on High Street is hard to better, while families dining out in the capital and looking for a taste of Italy will no doubt enjoy the pasta and pizza on offer at Gamberetti's Restaurant - also to be found on High Street.

The Willamette Valley Grill on Market Street North East, just off Interstate I-5, features an altogether more American dining experience, with its steaks (filet mignon, flat iron, rib eye and top sirloin) and other mouthwatering specialties.
