Columbus Hotels and Accommodation

(Columbus, Ohio - OH, USA)

A sizable city with plenty in the way of accommodation, Columbus continues to gain popularity and its hotels remain very reasonably priced, especially when compared to similar US cities. When the winter months arrive, Columbus becomes noticeably quieter and hotels tend to reduced their prices, in an attempt to stay busy.

The Port Columbus International Airport (CMH) is situated 7 miles / 11 km northeast of Columbus and comes with its very own selection of neighboring accommodation. Hotels close by tend to be grouped along the Airport Drive, where popular lodging choices include the Country Inn and Suites, the Courtyard by Marriott, the Embassy Suites, the Homewood Suites by Hilton, and the Staybridge Suites, amongst other well-known brands.

Located within the actual airport grounds and therefore extremely close to the terminal is the Baymont Inn, the Comfort Suites and the Hilton Garden Inn Columbus, all of which are based around Sawyer Road and next to the International Gateway. Just outside of the city and well worth considering is the cheap accommodation available at the nearby towns and cities of Gahanna, Grove City, Obetz and Worthington.

Where to Stay

If you favor budget accommodation, then Columbus has plenty of one- and two-star hotels / motels to choose between, with the quality generally being reflected within the price.

Quite reasonable is the Econo Lodge on Wilson Road, the Rodeway Inn North on Zumstein Drive, the Super 8 Motel on St. James Lutheran Lane, and the Columbus West Red Roof Inn on Renner Road, which is particularly close to the Franklin County Fairgrounds. However, whilst these hotels are certainly cheap, most are well away from the attractions and so really only suit those with their own vehicle.

For just a little more money, you can certainly improve on both the quality of the accommodation and the location itself. Close to the Ohio State University and located on Olentangy River Road is the popular University Plaza Hotel, while close by and within easy reach of the Ohio Statehouse, the Drury Inn Suites on East Nationwide Boulevard comes highly recommended.

Located in the very heart of downtown Columbus is the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on West Spring Street, which is particularly well-placed if you are planning to visit the Greater Columbus Convention Center on North High Street. Nearby and standing on South Front Street is the DoubleTree Guest Suites Hotels, where the Ohio Theatre is a mere two blocks away. For a spot of historic accommodation, the Residence Inn Marriott Downtown on East Gay Street is brimming with character and resides within the city's Business District.

Some five minutes from the Polaris Fashion Place Mall is the acclaimed waterfront Crowne Plaza North Hotel on the DoubleTree Avenue, which boasts both an indoor and outdoor pool, fitness center and its very own Starbucks coffee shop. Rather more upmarket and expensive is the four-star accommodation available at the Blackwell on Tuttle Park Place, next to Remembrance Park, while similarly priced is the Hyatt Regency on the North High Street, which is actually linked to the Greater Columbus Convention Center and next to an ice skating rink.

Especially cheap is the four-star lodging at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown on North 3rd Street - which enjoys close proximity to the German Village, and the Hilton Hotel on Chagrin Drive - within the outlying Easton Town Center suburb.
