Carson City Shopping and Districts

Whilst it is more than fair to say that Carson City is far from being Nevada's shopping capital, there are more than enough shops to satisfy most requirements.

Dotted around downtown Carson City are a number of small and often independent stores. These local shops are especially plentiful on the streets surrounding the Nevada State Capitol, such as North and South Carson Street, South Curry Street and Telegraph Street.

For a serious afternoon of shopping, you will need to bring your vacation money to the Carson Mall, which stands on the southern side of the city center, at 1313 South Carson Street (State Route US-529). This is actually a collection of adjoining shops, rather than an indoor mall as such.

When to Shop and Opening Hours

The Carson Mall remains open seven days a week, with stores here generally opening between the hours of 09:00 and 19:00 Monday to Friday, and closing a little earlier on Saturdays, at 18:00.

On Sundays, the stores at the mall open from 10:00 to 17:00, while elsewhere in Carson City, many of the smaller stores have limited Sunday shopping hours, or choose to close completely.

Where to Shop

In total there are around 20 different stores and eateries based at the Carson Mall, each with their own store front. These range from a florist, shoe shop and fashion boutiques, to a nail salon, photography store and gift shop.

Also located here is the Tahoe Dive Center, which sells and hires diving equipment for those interested in paying a visit to nearby Lake Tahoe, just over 40 minutes to the west of the state capital. Plenty of outdoor parking spaces surround this shopping complex in all directions.
