Carson City Parks and Gardens

(Carson City, Nevada - NV, USA)

Head north and south of Carson City and you will soon discover that the city is fortunate to sit between some very green, natural expanses, which are often edged by nearby Lake Tahoe and cover literally thousands of acres.

Roughly 13 miles / 21 km to the northwest is the expansive Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, which is more than 5,650 hectares / 14,000 acres in size and known for its lengthy Sand Harbor beachfront, where a summer open-air Shakespeare festival is a particular crowd-pleaser.

A little under 10 miles / 16 km to the north of Carson City, the Wilson Commons Park sits alongside Washoe Lake and offers plenty of recreational opportunities, as does the nearby Washoe Lake State Park itself, which is in the region of 3,200 hectares / 7,900 acres in size and has become something of a hotspot for windsurfers. Other outdoor attractions here include hiking trails, fishing spots, endless picnicking areas and almost 50 different camping sites.

Highlights here include a well-equipped children's playground, a covered shelter designed for picnics, restrooms and an exhibition hall.

Head further south and the Duane Bliss Peak offers summer hiking trails with unbeatable views, followed by snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when the snowy winter months arrive in Nevada.
