Jefferson City Restaurants and Dining

(Jefferson City, Missouri - MO, USA)

There are certainly more than enough restaurants and eateries peppered around Missouri's capital of Jefferson City to meet the needs of those who enjoy dining out, considering the city's relatively modest size.

A selection of more than 30 different restaurants and fast-food outlets of all description line the Missouri Boulevard, on the western side of downtown Jefferson City. In the very heart of the city center are a dozen or so eateries, gathered around Commercial Avenue and East High Street, being just a block or two south of the famous Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.

If you are out and about shopping in Jefferson City and looking for a bite to eat, then consider a spot of lunchtime dining at one of the malls. At the Mart Shopping Center on the Missouri Boulevard, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Little Caesar's Pizza are on hand, while at the Capital Mall on the West Truman Boulevard, you can visit the designated food court area and choose between fast-food restaurants such as Hardee's, Pizza Hut and Subway, as well as Stir Fry 88 and Wendy's.

Where to Eat

One of the very best restaurants to be found in Jefferson City is the Arris Bistro on West Miller Street, which enjoys a central situation close to the Baymont Inn and is known for its tempting dining menu. Highlights here include a choice of salads, tasty sandwiches, both American and Greek-style dishes, and some mouthwatering desserts, such as cheesecakes.

If you are looking for a traditional breakfast outside of your hotel, then you can't go far wrong by paying a visit to Oscar's Classic Diner on Schotthill Woods Drive. Located on the southeastern side of Jefferson City, Oscar's stands just off the Rex M. Whitton Expressway (US Route 50) and serves up fluffy blueberry pancakes, and mushroom and sausage omelette, together with a retro 1950s diner atmosphere. If you are here at lunchtime, then one of the steak sandwiches will be sure to keep the hunger pangs at bay.

If authentic German-style dining is more your kind of thing, then Jefferson City's very own Das Stein Haus Restaurant on Southridge Drive, in the vicinity of McKay Park, is the place to come. Reviews of this restaurant regularly feature words like 'delicious', 'tasty' and 'filling', with popular dishes including sauerbraten (marinated beef), schnitzels, sausages and seafood.

Those dining out with a family in Jefferson City should perhaps forget the dessert menu and head straight for Central Dairy on Madison Street, where ice cream really doesn't get much better. The choice of flavors is huge and includes fudge ripple, peach, strawberry cheesecake and even eggnog, along with an assortment of healthier frozen yoghurts. However, do bear in mind that due to its extreme popularity, this ice cream parlor can get extremely busy when the sun is shining.
