New Orleans French Market
The French Market comprises a number of large commercial buildings along Decatur Street. We came here at the time of the Mardi Gras and everybody seemed to be selling beads and necklaces. There were also lots of hats, t-shirts and paintings for sale. We had a lovely time wandering around and the best thing was that it seemed to be quite a bit cheaper than the main shops within the French Quarter, so that was an unexpected bonus for sure.

It's all at Jackson Square
This historic square was formerly called the 'Place d'Armes' and is almost 300 years old. Jackson Square is located in the city's French Quarter and is named after Andrew Jackson, America's seventh president. I learned that this square was where public executions took place. Visitors come here to visit the Saint Louis Cathedral, which is next to the Mississippi River. Look out for the statue of Andrew Jackson riding a horse. There are some good coffee shops here, around the Plaza de Armas.
