New Orleans Churches and Cathedrals

(New Orleans, Louisiana - LA, USA)

Numerous wonderful old and new churches are distributed around the city of New Orleans, meaning that if you are looking for a quiet place of worship, there is plenty of choice. Many of the old French and Spanish traditions are strongly influenced by the city's Roman Catholic roots, especially at Mardi Gras time.

Particularly breathtaking in downtown New Orleans is St. Louis Cathedral, which is also referred to as the Basilica of St. Louis (the King of France) and exudes a definite fairytale character. The cathedral functions as the seat of the city's Roman Catholic Archdiocese and fronts Jackson Square, being close to the waterfront, Woldenberg Park and the French Quarter Visitor Center.
