Art in Fort Lauderdale is no shabby scene, with a variety of centers and galleries featuring works of both classic and contemporary genres. The Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art and the New River Fine Gallery are especially noteworthy, being home to works by big name artists such as Picasso and Dali, while some of the smaller venues tend to concentrate on more local, up and coming Floridian artists.

With exhibitions of art works in all media and some galleries now also offering classes, art fans in the city have plenty to keep their eyes and hands busy.



Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art

The Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art has 21,000 square feet / 1,950 square meters of space dedicated to the promotion of art and culture in southwest Florida. Besides showcasing works by renowned artists, such as Picasso, Calder, Dali and Warhol, the museum offers a wide program of educational classes in all manner of media and in a range of subjects. Meanwhile, the Museum of Art's auditorium plays host to a variety of lectures, concerts, plays and films. Nearby points of reference include the Broward College and the Florida Atlantic University.

Call of Africa's Native Visions Gallery

With branches in both Fort Lauderdale and Naples, the Native Visions Gallery is dedicated to showcasing nature-based works by some of the world's finest artists in this genre. The subject matter of featured works includes landscapes, seascapes and African birds and wildlife. Featured artists at the art gallery include Kim Donaldson, Claire Naylor and David Langmead.

As one of Florida's oldest and most respected galleries, the New River Fine Art gallery is home to a respectable mix of both classic and contemporary art works. Among the classic works are pieces by Picasso, Dali, Chagall and Rembrandt, while contemporary contributors include Karen Stene, Luc Leestemaker, Pascal Chove and Dino Rosin. Many works are available for purchase, while others are for appreciation only.

Las Olas Fine Arts

Las Olas Fine Arts is a popular exhibition space concentrating on contemporary pieces by numerous award-winning international artists. The center combines originality and vision, and offers digital presentations, previews and consultation services, as and when required.

Frederick Fine Art Gallery

Situated within the Oakland Park area and roughly a 20-minute walk from the Coral Ridge Mall, Frederick Fine Art is actually the biggest and arguably the most impressive commercial gallery standing within the Greater Fort Lauderdale area. Exhibits include a number of old masters dating from the 17th century, as well as various antiques and artifacts, displayed within this 7,500-square-foot / 700-meter exhibition space. Many of the art works are organized in themed groupings, which include categories such as abstract, classic modernism, impressionism, realism and sculptures, and with this being a commercial venture, all are for sale - at a price! However, with free admission, a visit here will certainly make for an interesting diversion if you are passing by. Of note, the gallery was established by American / Danish artist, Lars Hegelund, who is always happy to search out original pieces (no prints or reproductions are sold here).
