The Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington
The famous Korean War Veterans Memorial is in the West Potomac Park and near to the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool. It was officially dedicated in 1995 by Bill Clinton and Korea's president. It really is quite an amazing sight and a little bit eerie, with around 20 very realistic steel statues of soldiers, slightly bigger than in real life, wandering around to represent an actual patrolling squadron. The United Nations Wall is nearby, as is the shallow Pool of Remembrance and some nice gardens. I can't stress enough how worthwhile it is experiencing this unique sight first hand. Check it out if you can.

Washington - the Thomas Jefferson Memorial
The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is famous the world over and is dedicated to America's 3rd president, the country's founding father and the man behind the Declaration of Independence. It was erected in 1943 and inside the actual dome you can read a number of Jefferson's most well-known speeches. There is a giant statue of Jefferson, made of bronze, and it stands right in front of the declaration itself. It looks very much like a Greek temple, with lots and lots of beautiful marble, and at the time it was built was critised for its unimaginative architecture. I thought it looked lovely myself. Most people come here for the extraordinary views across Washington and the Tidal Basin.
