Aurora Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing
(Aurora, Colorado - CO, USA)
When it comes to specific tourist attractions in Aurora, many of these tend to be of a recreational nature, meaning that they are more geared towards the summer crowd. In fact, the city is proud to boast that it is actually called home by more than 100 individual
parks, and combined with other greens spaces and local
golf courses, this adds up to in excess of 2,430 hectares / 6,000 acres of open spaces.
If you are a keen golfer, then Aurora will certainly be able to meet your needs with its various golfing attractions. In total there are no less than seven quality golf courses spread around the environs of the city, the most popular of which include
Meadow Hills,
Saddle Rock and the
Fitzsimons, which occupies a historic army base and was once a favorite haunt of Dwight D. Eisenhower, America's 34th president.
Summer tourists regularly choose to spend time at the
Star K. Ranch, where the
Morrison Nature Center is the principal draw, with its nature trails, expansive wetlands and woodlands, boardwalk and pretty butterfly garden. The
Cherry Creek State Park on South Parker Road lies directly to the south of the city, in the direction of
Centennial. Here you can boat, fish and cycle, as well as hike and even camp.
Both the
Aurora Reservoir on South Powhaton Road and the
Quincy Reservoir on East Quincy Avenue deserve a strong mention here as well, with the former offering archery, picnic spots and an area dedicated to scuba diving.
Providing a little more in the way of excitement is the
Arapahoe Park Racetrack, which also resides on East Quincy Avenue and sits in the middle of the Quincy Reservoir and the
Arapahoe County Fairgrounds and Regional Park. For evening attractions and culture, the
Aurora Fox Arts Center on East Colfax Avenue is a safe bet and offers an extensive calendar of live theater, musicals, comedies, concerts, movie screenings and readings, being able to seat audiences of just under 250 people.
