Aurora Shopping and Districts

(Aurora, Colorado - CO, USA)

If you have some holiday money to spend and are looking for fashion, jewelry or simply some Colorado souvenirs, then there are several worthy shopping destinations within the city of Aurora.

A sensible first port of call would be the city center, around East Exposition Avenue and East Alameda Avenue, close to the Aurora History Museum. In this part of the city you will find the 'Town Center at Aurora', a sizeable fully enclosed shopping complex that sits within a busy commercial district.

The 'Town Center' opened here in the middle of the 1970s and enjoyed a major refurbishment and remodeling program in the year 2003, costing an estimated US$100 million. Today, in the region of 125 different stores, eateries and services grace the mall over two floors, the largest and most significant of which are Dillard's, JC Penney, Macy's and Sears, which are regarded as anchors.

A Century Theater movieplex is also located at Aurora's Town Center mall, although sadly this will always be remembered as being the cinema where a mass shooting tragically occurred in July 2012, during a late-night screening of the Batman movie, 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Where to Shop

There are several additional shopping opportunities within the vicinity of the Town Center at Aurora. On the other side of Interstate I-225 (west) and situated opposite the Bicentennial Park, just off East Alameda Avenue, is the Aurora Mall Plaza West Shopping Center. This is a fairly small strip mall with a handful of stores, such as New York and Company, and the Art Shoppe, along with a good choice of eateries.

Just to the south of the Town Center at Aurora is a further gathering of shopping opportunities encircling the City Square, which are based around a large Walmart. Highlights here include Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft, and Home Depot.

To the east of the Town Center is the somewhat smaller City Center Marketplace Shopping Center, which occupies the corner of South Chambers Road and the East Alameda Parkway. As well as being called home by various big stores, this popular strip mall is also the site of a large 24 Hour Fitness sports complex, with extensive keep-fit facilities and even a basketball court.
