Cancun International Airport (CUN) Information

(Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico)

View of Cancun beachfrontCancun International Airport may rank second to Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport in terms of overall passenger traffic, but no other Mexican air hub greets more international passengers than this principal gateway to Mexico's most popular holiday getaway. Since 1999, the annual number of passengers served here has rather skyrocketed from just under seven million to over 13 million today.

Although only two of the three terminals are currently in operation, Terminal 1 is scheduled to reopen in the near future and resume its former status as a terminal reserved for charter flights. Terminal 3 is solely used for international flights, while Terminal 2 handles a mixture of international and domestic flights.

Currently, the most frequent destination for departing flights from Cancun International Airport is the Benito Juarez International Airport. The next top five busiest routes are all to American cities, solidifying Cancun's status as a popular holiday destination among North Americans.

Cars and Taxis

Rented vehicles are a popular way to explore Cancun, as shuttles and public buses are the resort's only available public transportation. Several local resorts boast private and secure underground parking garages. The drive north into the city takes about 20 minutes, via the Carretera Federal 307 / Luis Donaldo Colosio Highway.

The Cancun Shuttle Company supplies airport taxis to transport passengers throughout the city and its busy Hotel Zone. Taxis are also a convenient way to reach the nearby Riviera Golf Resort (east), the thriving beach resort of Playa del Carmen (south-west) and the community of Leona Vicario (west).
