Downtown pictureThe climate enjoyed by San Jose and Costa Rica as a whole is very mild and usually rather warm, with plenty of sunny weather and high temperatures throughout the year, averaging more than 30°C / 86°F each month. March, April and May tend to offer the hottest climate in San Jose, with long days seeing temperatures exceeding 35°C / 95°F of more.

Rainy weather is at its most likely in San Jose between May and early November and this is generally referred to as the 'wet season' and can be a little windy at times. However, despite September and October featuring the highest precipitation levels averaging some 300 mm / 11.8 inches per month, may tourists still choose to vacation here at this time of the year, since the Pacific side in particular usually sees much of the rain falling during the evenings, with sunshine making an appearance on many days. The rain also has the advantage that dust on unpaved roads is greatly reduced.
