The tropical Atlantic coastline of Bahia enjoys a hot and humid climate throughout the year, and the weather experienced in Salvador is certainly no exception to this. Temperatures in Salvador remain consistently high year-round, averaging 27°C / 81°F to 30°C / 86°F by day.

Being a Brazilian city in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons of Salvador are quite different to the north. Spring arrives in September, summer in December, autumn in March and then winter in June. Temperature-wise, the seasons tend to rather merge into each other, although the rainfall does vary.

May, June and July are generally the wettest months of the year in Salvador, cooling the climate down a little. Each of these months sees precipitation levels average 21 cm / 8 inches or thereabouts, compared with January (the driest month), when rainfall rarely exceeds 11 cm / 4 inches.

It should be noted that rainy weather seldom lasts an entire day in the state of Bahia, tending to fall in late afternoon in the form of extremely heavy showers, which have been known to flood roads briefly.
