General Information

With so many different tour operators and excursions to choose between around Manaus, each specialising in their own jungle fun, it is well worth carefully selecting the itinerary that best suits your requirements. Consider whether or not you are happy camping and sleeping in a hammock or prefer jungle lodge comforts, if you favour hiking or canoeing, and if you are hoping to enjoy a river cruise.

Tourists in Manaus should try to avoid preconceptions of the Amazon Jungle. Whilst its attractions are certainly in plentiful supply, it is doubtful that you will spot anaconda snakes, jaguars and manatees. Instead, it is much more likely that you will encounter macaws and other brightly coloured parrots, various monkeys, sloths and certainly plenty of mosquitoes!

If you have time, consider the attractions around the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, which is approximately 100 km / 62 miles from Manaus and has natural attractions such as caves, beautiful waterfalls and stunning scenery. Alternatively, you may like to pay a visit to the city of Sao Gabriel da Cachoeira and check out Brazil's highest mountain, join an expedition to the Jau National Park, sunbathe of the Praia do Tupé (Tupé Beach), or soak up the nightlife in the vibrant city of Manacapuru - one of the biggest in Amazonas.
