Christ Church Museums and Art Galleries

(Christ Church, Barbados)

Christ Church doesn't have as many museums or art galleries as its neighbour, Bridgetown. However, it only takes a few minutes by car to get back and forth between the two, so it's easy to stay in Christ Church while visiting the Barbados Museum and Wildey House by day.

Visitors should note that Christ Church is where you will discover the interactive aviation exhibits at the Concorde Experience, where there are ample opportunities for you to learn all about this iconic passenger plane. The parish also has Kirby Gallery, a great resource for local arts-related activities and one of the most vibrant galleries on the island.

Located within a hangar at the Barbados-Grantley Adams International Airport, this is an exciting aviation museum and attraction that allows you to actually board a decommissioned British Airways Concorde G-BOAE plane. Often suiting those with flight delays or families looking for something to do on a rainy day, the Barbados Concorde Experience features themed zones, which include movie documentaries, a departures lounge, security checks, engineering, an observation deck and a flight school, with a flight simulator that actually puts you in the cockpit of this supersonic jet. This is a great stop for families and aviation enthusiasts, although many find it a little on the expensive side.

Barbados Museum

Address: St. Ann's Garrison, Bridgetown, Barbados

Technically not in Christ Church, this museum is a few minutes' drive to the west in Bridgetown. It is, however, the most important museum on the entire island, with enlightening exhibits that cover the human and natural history of Barbados. The building itself was a prison in colonial days and now features a children's gallery, treasures from the Amerindians, information about the island's coral structure, authentic 18th-century furnishings from a plantation house, a large collection of historic island maps and a reference library.
Open hours: Monday to Saturday - 09:00 to 17:00, Sunday - 14:00 to 18:00
Admission: charge, discounts for children

Wildey House

Address: Wildey, Barbados

This is another important attraction wedged between Christ Church and Bridgetown, and it's well worth a visit regardless of where you are staying. Wildey House is a heritage mansion with exhibits showcasing colonial furnishings. The grounds feature a re-enactment of old Barbados, with stables, a carriage house and slave quarters.
