Attractions Nearby Christ Church, Day Trips and Excursions

(Christ Church, Barbados)

Many of the best attractions on Barbados are just a short drive from Christ Church, suiting day trips and afternoon excursions alike. Visitors tend to stay here because of the inviting atmosphere of the parish villages and the ease of driving a rental car on visits to sites in outlying areas.

One of the most popular attractions on the island is Harrison's Cave, which is located towards the interior. There are also botanical gardens near Bathsheba in the north, and historical attractions and monuments in Bridgetown to the west. Both are reasonably close to Christ Church and can be reached within short drives.

Harrison's Cave

Harrison's Cave is arguably the most popular attraction on the entire island. The cave stands towards the interior of the island, away from the main tourist infrastructure, and so virtually everyone visits on a day trip. The cavern is enormous and you can ride through on a tram, stopping off to take in the cascades and deep pools. This cave wasn't even on the map before its rediscovery in the 1970s.

Nidhe Israel Synagogue

Address: Weymouth, Bridgetown, Barbados
Tel: +1 246 432 0840
There was a time when neighbouring Bridgetown harboured a thriving Jewish population, and this was their central house of worship and community. It was built in the 1600s and destroyed by a hurricane about 200 years later. Ignored for decades as the Jewish community no longer existed, locals finally decided to restore it in the 1980s. Nowadays, this synagogue-turned-museum is the leading resource on the Jewish history of Barbados.
