Guided Bus Tours

Guide bus tours are extremely popular in Newport and offer a great way to get to know the city, before you explore it more fully on foot. Operated by 'City Sightseeing', these popular open-top buses feature live commentary along the route and hop-on / hop-off tickets, which remain valid for 24 hours.

The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre

The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre offers an extensive programme of performances, live entertainment and various exhibitions, and is home to a spacious theatre with seating for almost 500 people. There is also an additional studio space available here, which can seat more than 100 and offers a particularly intimate space, where smaller gigs, concerts and other local attractions are held. A coffee shop and bar complete the main attractions at the Riverfront Theatre.

Dolman Theatre

Built in the late 1960s for a local theatrical society, the Dolman Theatre has a spacious auditorium with seating for around 400 people and also a separate 60-seater studio area. Hosting various shows and plays each year, the Dolman Theatre is also home to a number of additional attractions, which include a large orchestra pit, cafe, bar and three individual rehearsal rooms.

The Newport Centre

The Newport Centre is a popular leisure centre boasting a range of sporting facilities, suiting all ages. Home to a large swimming pool complete with water slide and wave machine, other attractions at the leisure centre include badminton, squash and tennis courts, basketball, and a gymnasium complete with sauna. The leisure centre also offers a cafe area, various sporting events and a number of regular fitness classes.

Cinemas

There are two main cinemas within the city of Newport, screening all of the latest films and new releases. Particularly convenient is the City Cinema, which features three cinema screens and hosts a number of film festivals during the year. Worth noting, the Newport City Cinema offers big discounts to attract cinema-goers during the week. Standing on the city's outskirts and in the Newport Retail Park, the popular Cineworld Cinema is a multi-screen complex with superb facilities and state-of-the-art sound.

Walking

Known for its magnificent countryside and open areas of green, walking is the perfect way to enjoy the scenery. Various walking trails are available outside of the city, including the Usk Valley Walk, which is particularly popular and follows the course of the actual river valley for many miles. Various seasonal guided walks are also available around central Newport itself and other surrounding areas, with the latest information being available from the city's tourist information centre.
