Ankara Esenboga International Airport (ESB) Information

(Ankara, Turkey)

The airport serving Turkey's centrally located national capital is officially called the Ankara Esenboga International Airport. The name of both this hub and the village where it stands translates to 'serene bull' in English and is a variation on the name of a warlord who fought in the 1402 Battle of Ankara.

In under a decade, the airport's annual passenger throughput soared from under three million to 8.5 million, making it Turkey's fifth-busiest air facility. ACI Europe recently named this airport, a designated NASA space shuttle emergency landing site, as the best in Europe.

In 2006, the facility acquired a new combined international and domestic terminal capable of managing up to ten million passengers through its 34 passport counters and 105 check-in counters each year. A separate general aviation terminal reserved for private aircraft opened as recently as 2012.

The Ankara Esenboga International Airport stands 24 km / 15 miles north-east of the city centre, which is centred around Kizilay Square. The driving time to and from Ankara was dramatically decreased after the summer 2006 expansion of the route between the city's ring road and the airport.

Facilities:

Cars and Taxis

Experienced drivers should have few problems driving from Esenboga International Airport to the city, despite the city's parking space shortage and numerous one-way streets. The Ozal Boulevard (Esenboga Yolu), also known as the D-140, is the main route between Ankara and the airport, passing by Saracalarciftigili, Saray Osmangazi Mah and Karacaoren Mah along the way.

The Arrivals and Departures floors in both the International and Domestic areas have special sections reserved for taxis, which welcome passengers 24 hours.
