Lausanne Maps and Orientation

(Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland)

The popular Swiss city of Lausanne is sited next to the coast of Lake Geneva and directly north-east of Geneva. Lausanne lies immediately south of the Jura mountain range and is the capital city of the Vaud area.

Lausanne has become known for its wine making and much of the city is surrounded by a series of terraced vineyards, particularly around the Lavaux region. Those tourists planning to venture outside of the city by car would be advised to first purchase a good, detailed map of the region.

Maps and Orientation of the City

The winding streets of the Old Town area (Vieille Ville) are an especially appealing part of Lausanne and dominated by the stunning cathedral. Nearby, the train station is a notable local landmark, along with the bustling street of the Rue Central, which stretches next to the valley.

The main hub for public transportation in Lausanne is the central Place St. François, next to the Rue de Bourg and the trendy district of Flon. A large cinema complex has recently opened in the Flon area, together with countless boutiques, galleries and street cafes. Next to the lake itself, Lausanne now encompasses the small village of Ouchy, where many harbourside hotels are concentrated.
