Lausanne is a relatively compact city and so wherever you choose to stay, you are almost guaranteed that your hotel or guest house will not be far away from the city centre, the Vieille Ville (Old Town) and the harbour attractions. The most sought after accommodation in Lausanne generally offers to best views, so do consider this if booking prior to your arrival.

For something a little less expensive, Lausanne contains a number of extremely affordable hostels, pensions and similar accommodation. Popular choices include the Auberge de Jeunesse along the Chemin du Bois de Vaux, the Pension Bon-Séjour on the Rue Caroline, and the Lausanne Guest House on the Rue des Epinettes, close to the train station and the Boulevard de Grancy.

Where to Stay

If you prefer camping to hostels, then the nearby Camping du Vidy site will be worth considering. Situated on the westerly side of Lausanne's acclaimed Vidy sports complex, this peaceful camping site is close to Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), and also the motorway and the Bois de Vaux.

Many busy hotels lie along the main thoroughfares of central Lausanne, such as the Rue de Bourg, the Rue Centrale, the Rue St. Martin and the Rue Caroline, next to the Place de l'Ours. However, it is on the southern side of Lausanne where the most popular accommodation is clustered, particularly around Ouchy, the Chemin de Beau-Rivage, the Port d'Ouchy and the Quai d'Ouchy. Hotels here have the advantage of being close to the waterfront, a number of beaches and many wooded areas and parklands.
