Golf has never been more popular in western Switzerland and a number of the best golf courses here are close to Lausanne and take full advantage of the spectacular scenery surrounding Lake Geneva. Generally, most golf courses within the Lausanne area and the canton de Vaud remain open from February or March, until December, remaining closed during the coldest month of January.

Many golfers visiting the area enjoy a round at the city's aptly named Lausanne Golf Club, where truly breathtaking views across the Alps and also the Jura mountains can be enjoyed. With 18 holes, a driving range, a professional golfing shop, a short six-hole course for beginners and a ladies day each Tuesday morning, the par-72 Lausanne Golf Club dates back to 1921 and lies off the N9 Autoroute, being around 7 km / 4 miles to the north of the city


Also close to Lausanne is the ever-popular course at the Golf Club du Domaine Imperial Villa Prangins. With 18 holes, a par of 72 and a picturesque setting on the shore of the famous Lake Geneva, close to the A1 motorway, this course was established in 1987 and has gained quite a reputation over the following years, regularly ranking as one of the best golf clubs in the whole of Switzerland. Visitors are welcomed here between Tuesday to Friday, during the morning, or by prior arrangement.
